What springs forward when spring has finally sprung forward? The Kenyons! Still groggy from a long winter hibernation but ready to proclaim their combined opinion to their few but loyal followers, these two have been inspired to begin writing again. Maybe its the weather or maybe its the Trekee within (or is it Treker? honestly, who cares?) but the Kenyon Review is moving ahead at Warp Speed!
She said: Sunday afternoons are filled with strolls around the neighborhood, catching up on chores, carefully crafting some experiment turned meal and the perfect moment to beam straight to the summer blockbuster "Star Trek." Now let me just first say, I know NOTHING about this legendary TV classic turned alternate nerd language but I should- I've been raised by a dad who sports a Captain Kirk hairdo, often references Scotty in everyday conversation, and decorates the Christmas tree with tiny light-up figures of the retro and new generation versions of the USS Enterprise. But alas, I went into this movie clueless. So, my opinion? Overall, it was o.k. The animation was awesome, loved the spacey technology, and the new Captain Kirk is soooooo sexy! The action was great, a little shakey on the camera angles, but just what an adventure flick calls for. Unfortunately, the movie as a whole warped at light speed over my head. I found myself discovering these characters for the first time, learning their quirks and stories while the rest of the theatre was in on an inside joke. In the end, was it worth the matinee price? I personally think the $8.75 (and yes, that is matinee price now) would be better spent when I buy the DVD for my dad for Christmas and we all watch it as a family with full bellies and happy hearts. And not even Spock could argue with that logic.... of course, we haven't heard his perspective yet...
He said: I know it's been a looonngg time since the Kenyon's have blogged together and as some of you may remember Shannon has the over anaylized long answers and I get right to the point. STAR TREK WAS AWESOME!! I was never a Trekee or even watched more than maybe 5 episodes but I think the inner nerd in me remembered alot of the little things so I was able to enjoy the movie instead of bizarrely thinking about why this guy said "this" and "that" and why everyone was laughing. I think J.J Abrams did an awesome job making orginal fans happy and enlisting a new generation of fans. If you like amazing movies see it, if you prefer watching boring movies with that "sexy star," 17 Again is playing in the next theater. See you in two hours Shan.
